The Table
He made it for my eighteenth birthday.
In his secret carpenter's shed out back.
I could hear the saw, smell the wood shavings, the stain, the sweat, the heat, his occasional tobacco chew, my grandmother's iced tea mixed with swirling sawdust
Sometimes I need to draw
from the comfort of wood
Papa knew how to make a stand you know

What a beautiful gift your Papa made for you. Everytime you touch that table you will be able to feel the love that went into it and be close to your Papa again. x
Knowing how to make a stand is a wonderful way to build a child. Such a beautiful example of the strength of love.
Ms. Music teacher should like my blog today.
What a treasure from your Papa. How much he loved you is shown in this beautiful table.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Nothing beats working with wood. It is a comforst to all the senses; the smell, the feel, the touch...ok maybe not taste, but the sight. it is beyond gratifying.
Yes! Like Pam said, a treasure!
What a great memory! Thanks for sharing it! :-)
It's beautiful Mimi and I bet it holds a lot of precious memories.
Hot from the desk of Sir Tom Eagerly:
When buying presents for kids Sir Tom will only buy things made of wood. No way will he buy plastic.
Wood is/was a living thing and, when you touch it, you can feel the love of the maker.
I'm on the loose again Miss Mimi. It's very nice for you to have me back. Probably. Kiss, kiss!
Gorgeous Ms. Mimi
