The Breast Cancer Vaccine ~ Finally Hope?
Someone in your life or mine, maybe even you personally, has been touched by breast cancer.
When I saw the news today "Vaccine Could Eliminate Breast Cancer" my heart made a little leap of joy to think that mmmmaybe the "someday" we've all been hoping for is nearer than we think. Even with all the precautionary jumble from experts and researchers, the news does have the ring of truth about it. Remember just how quickly the HPV virus vaccination was announced and shortly thereafter, became a reality? Not only did it have the potential, it does in fact eradicate cervical cancer in those young women who use it preventatively.
No one five years ago would have believed such a thing.
USAToday reports in this article: "In the new experiment, immunologist Vincent Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute tested the vaccine against a protein, called alpha-lactalbumin, found on many breast cancer cells. Mice in the experiment had been genetically modified to lead them to develop breast cancer. Though none of the 50 vaccinated mice developed cancer, all of the others did."
I am watching these developments with hopeful anticipation, as I know many of you are.
I know there is much research to do and questions to be answered, precautions to take and trials to be done, but still....just think of the ramifications based on these recent discoveries in medicine. What other parallels can be made? Once, the world was filled with diseases such as smallpox, rubella, hepatitis B, influenza, cervical cancer....and now vaccines insure that a new generation won't have to suffer and wait for cures.
All I can say is....wouldn't it be incredible?

It's too late for me but I am so hoping for all those woman - my sons' future wives, any grandaughters I may be lucky enough to get - hoping that this is the key that will cure breast cancer forever.

Yes.. it would be incredible... totally.
I showed this post to Pam, and a fierce determination came over her face. This is where our money goes. I so hope we get there.
I have had many female friends pay a terrible cost due to this disease... I am so hopeful that this will take care of this dread disease...
