The Shadow Does Not Hold Sway Yet ~ Not Over Me, Not Over You
When this song came out on Josh Groban's debut album a few years ago, I was impressed with the depth of emotion in this young (very young b. 1981) man's voice. It became one of my relationship songs......we all have them, don't we? Groban was "discovered" by his high school choir teacher. He'd done little performing before. Listen to the soothing sounds of Groban's To Where You Are and watch the anguished sweet powerfully portrayed love story of Tolkien's Aragorn and Arwen in The Lord Of The Rings.
This video is pure magic.

He's hot.
I'm going to marry him someday.
Snort.
Ah, Josh Groban ... such a voice. The theme from "Troy" that he did is one of my all-time favorites and this one ... well, you can imagine what this one does to me.
Beautiful. And yet so sad.
Wow....I 'm going to download this song....it fits!
Peace
A great song and a handsome man to look at today! He is so hot!! hehe
Fish - You'll have to stand in line...
Linda - Groban's "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rained" ....awesome.
I can imagine, my friend.
Odat - Hugs to you. I know this season will be difficult for you.
He definitely has a gift. Very nice.
BTW- Did you create the Layer Meme? I just posted it, but wasn't sure of its origins. Sandee suggested it was your highness.
I know that this guy probably has talent, and that the song is beautiful, and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings who--like my lovely Lana--listens to this kind of music, but I really just can't personally listen to music like that. It's so incrediblly.....s.....l....o....w
My idea of a relationship song is "Feel like Making Love" by Bad Company, or "I just wanna make love to you" by Foghat.
What a great voice he has. I've never seen or heard of him before.
Have a terrific day. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)
He has a lovely voice and Vitto can ring my bell any damn day ;)
Three years ago I spent my pre-Christmas time in Massachusetts with my mother. Her health had deteriorated and my sister and I had agreed that she need nursing home care. The only thing she asked to take with her was a small stereo and her 3 Josh Groban CD's. To say the least, Josh Groban grounds me to the present with vast memories of the past. (Mom passed away Jan 9, 2006. I wasn't there but I would like to believe she was listening to her music.)
If I had his voice and he had a feather up his nose we'd both be tickled! He is an amazing talent. Unfortunately, because he isn't the typical pop talent he doesn't get near the attention he should. I have a couple of his albums on my digital music player. Thanks for the video, Your Highness.
i first saw/heard josh on ally mcbeal. i got the chills hearing him sing. i love him. my oldest is in choir and they did the song 'you raise me up'. i told them josh groban sings that. they're like who's he? lol i guess they were doing a version that had a girl singing, but i don't know who.
Jeff - Which one? There have been several. One I did create. I will come over and check. Thanks for asking.
Charles - Oh...I have many "relationship songs" - not just one!
MEN!
Both of those are great songs too!
Mars/Venus.
Sigh.
Sandee - He is amazing. I can't wait to hear him when he's forty.
Starrlight - He doth ringeth well...
Carol - I'm sorry about your mother. I'm not surprised she wanted his voice to be near. It's soothing.....a definite gift.
Lee - "...because he isn't the typical pop talent he doesn't get near the attention he should." You are sooo correct!
I hope he never goes "pop" and tries to fit the mold. He is classy and deep.
Ciara - I've taught that piece as well. All the teacher had to do was show a picture of him and all the teenage girls would want to sing him forever. He's absolutely adorable!
Gorgeous! What a romantic song and video.
Is it me or is it snowing?
Liv Tyler is, no doubt about it a very beautiful woman.
However, as an LOTR purist, I must point out that she has only a fairly minor role in the novel.
Jennifer - I love this song.
Bud - I told you I could smell snow. And now you smell it too...
Crush - But did you notice it is snowing?.....
Gail's son Eric is autistic, as you know. He has very limited interests and obsesses over those. One of them is Josh Groban! I'm glad it's him we listen to over and over and over and over and over and over, because he does indeed have an amazing voice. We took Eric to see Josh in Grand Rapids, MI last year. It was a very cool concert. He is indeed an impressive young man.
The other thing you hit for me was the Lord of the Rings video. I have been a lunatic fan since first reading the trilogy in college. I read it to each of my kids when they were young. I saw the movies at midnight on opening night. I'm an LOTR nerd!!
Y'know, m'dear - er, "your royal highness" - I don't usually go for this kind of music, but I have to say, I sat, I listened, and I was impressed.
(What can I say, I'm usually a sucker for chanteuses..)
Ferd - No wonder....his voice has a soothing/peaceful quality to it. So cool that you took him to the concert. I would love to see him live.
You are a fan of Tolkien! I think I'm going to rent the entire series and watch it from start to finish over the holidays. Lots of hot chocolate and me and blanket on the couch. I never do that!
I think it's time to seriously chill and rest.
Glad you enjoyed the video, Ferd.
Don - I'm impressed that you listened all the way through. I like other types of music as well, not just the "serious" tunes. But this song is special to me. And his voice is like warm butter....
Thanks for listening.
The dang video wouldn't work for me - GRRR! But I do like Groban's voice, and Viggo Mortensen makes me melt.
BTW: I have the trilogy on DVD - should I bring that with the corkscrew, massage skills, and replacement ornaments? ;-)
Desert - It starts about 5 seconds into it. Just be a bit more patient....
Don - I need to speak to Santa today about all those things..you have replacement ornaments? ha! You don't even have a tree!
If you rent LOTR, be sure to get the extended version.
As to Arwen as a minor character in the books, it is true that the main novel only mentions her briefly. However her story is extensively told in the appendix and she is a central motivation for Aragorn. That is inferred in the main story several times.
I'm such a LOTR geek.
Well, *I* may not have replacement ornaments, but I'd bet Target does!
I told you - tree is coming Monday. I'll post photos. You've berated me into it!
