I'm A Sexy What?

I was tagged by at least 3 people for this meme some time ago, Lizza, Julia, Anndi...anyone else? Thanks guys. It was a fun exercise. Now if I could just find some of those stockings to go with my pencil skirt.

Rules: Pass it on to five other bloggers.
Tell them to open the nearest book to page 46.
Write out the fifth sentence on that page, and also the next two to five sentences.

The closest book, not the coolest, or the one you think will sound the best.
THE CLOSEST.

Found on my living room table an arm's length away from the laptop on the couch. From a 1969 Hallmark Edition of Robert F. Kennedy's speeches. It's called Robert F. Kennedy: Promises To Keep copyright 1969

This is p. 46, sentence five and the following five sentences:

"The disclosures of the Eichmann trial remind us all how quickly the world has forgotten the massive horrors which one set of human beings perpetrated against another a short twenty years ago."
and then...."Our problems, having grown to the size of the world, if not of the solar system, no longer seem our own. Each day we are required to respond to new crises created by people whose names we cannot pronounce in lands of which we have never heard. After a time, the capacity to respond begins to flag; and we turn, not cheerfully, but almost in despair, to the sports pages and the comics.
And yet I would say to you that the stake is just as personal today as it was a century ago, the obligation just as personal, the capacity to affect the course of history just as great. What we require is not the self-indulgence of resignation from the world but the hard effort to work out new ways of fulfilling our personal concerns and our personal responsibility."

The wisdom of Bobby Kennedy.

I tag Gal, Jen, Pam, Jamie and Giggles
Go forth and meme.
So let it be written.
So let it be done.
(I've always wanted to say that....)

Eric - I did not cheat! It was uncanny how it tied into the peace theme though, wasn't it?

I love to read his inspiring words.

Thanks for doing the meme. I'll be right over. Is it cold in Minnesota tonight?

Michell - It really is a great read.

Very cold ... esp in my new shack with no doors!

Even those of us who are flawed can still find and share wisdom. Such a one was Bobby Kennedy.

Timeless words from Bobby Kennedy. And oh so true.

Glad you were able to do this one, Mims.

Great job, your Majesty.

I still think, though, that that is one incredibly uncomfortable reading position!

I think words are actually even more powerful when spoken by those who, as Travis puts it, are flawed.

Man, my words must pack a whallop... :)

Well done my Queen... my countdown will be posted this weekend.

It feels so weird reading this after watching "scream bloody murder Christine Amanpour" on CNN last night. The atrocities that are still present and yes we go about our day. Interesting book....not sure I could top this!

I love this part:

'We turn, not cheerfully, but almost in despair, to the sports pages and the comics.'

I'm so glad this was the arms' length book. Even a few lines from Bobby Kennedy are thought-provoking, and I'm glad they were part of this meme. The closest book was the coolest, Mimi!
