If I Believe that Words are Powerful, Then This Matters

There is a rumble in the air.
It is moving from blog to blog to blog.
Poetry in the making, paintings full of life and words - oh, your words -
are full of healing.
Yesterday I called it a "chatter."
I was wrong.

My dream is still to see those Latin words on every blog,
that vision has not changed; but what I'm finding in the ranks of blog pages across our world is far more eloquent than mere numbers can convey.

Yes, the significant grandness and sheer volume of our voice in record numbers is part of the vision - but as of yesterday, when I started to really hear what you were saying - I realized that the depth of what I heard could never be measured by a globe count.

Listen.

Do you hear it?

This from a teacher in the United States named Quilldancer
who wears her blog like a garment of flowers. She taught me about gratitude.
"There is a roof over my head, food in my
refrigerator- and in my belly... For me, life is good, and full of fun and
games. For some people, none of life is fun and games.....On November 7th a call for peace will rise from the blogosphere. I plan to show my gratitude for my
life and prividges I deem common place, by asking that those privileges become
common place the world over."

A blog in from Filip in Bulgaria that I can't read a word of. Anyone care to translate? The visual speaks for itself anyway.

And this from an invisible radio blog owner (It's Tape Radio. Go figure)-musician-comedian who brought to bear the potential of unified action.
"This may be as important a thing that you, and
now we, have ever done.
There is nothing as serious as peace.
Imagine.

Quoting from an Amnesty International poster, Annelisa, author of Words That Flow sends this in a comment. It's too good to leave there unnoticed.
'Many little things done by many little people
will change the face of the world' (quote from Amnesty International - photo on
my wall) and added "There's nothing brighter than a beacon of hope."

From Kat, the author of Kat's Random Thoughts, in an email yesterday,

"I find the thought of many minds focused on one common topic a very powerful
thing. The kind of movement that creates real change."

Read this post on her blog today on The Power of Numbers.

Jessie, who lost her mother not long ago, is honoring her on November 7th. It would have been her mom's 57th birthday. I like the simple sentiment on her globe she submitted, "Hunna wants peace. Do you?"
From India, the enigmatic Prometheus writes. "Yo Mims. This is a bit like digging a tunnel to China armed with a plastic spoon.....Ergo, I sign up."

I started this project with a conviction that words are powerful. I could see your names scrawled across our world in one silent voice - and I knew the images themselves would speak volumes. But I didn't anticipate how profoundly your thoughts would affect my vision.........How much conviction of purpose I would gather from reading what you had to say........What I would learn about myself in such a short time.......Nor that I would find myself crying at my keyboard.

I think, Prometheus Ruler of the Universe, that Mims just got a bigger spoon.

Reposted with edits from October 31, 2006 just before the first BlogBlast. Still true. The story continues.....

Thanks, Bud! You've been involved with peace globes since the beginning. Very much appreciated.
Smooches....(oops, I wasn't supposed to kiss a fellow blogger)
Sorry.
I take it back.
No, I don't.

Madd- So great to hear from you. I'll always remember your support in the first Dona Nobis Pacem.
It was awesome, wasn't it?

Thanks for your very nice comments about Amanda's artwork over on my post today; she is thrilled that so many people like her artwork. Sadly, her own father frowns upon it but I think his lone voice has been drowned out but all of the others who say otherwise.

Hopefully someday the world will be the same way in that those voices who crave peace will drown out the voices of those who advocate war as an answer. One can only hope!

Hi Mimi!
I'm so glad that I met you. You are doing great work!!!
I'd like to read more from your site, but I have a big problem with opening your blogs. Long time ago I tried to visit you, but I had problem too. I don't know it is only my problem? But opening tooo long for many people is ...problem. Openning your blog take a looong time.
And I cannot linked you?
What can I do?
Peace and Love to you!!

Kystyna - Glad to have met you as well. Not sure what the problem might be. There are lots of graphics on my site. Maybe you're on dialup? Sometimes Internet Explorer/Firefox browsers don't mix. Keep trying. I haven't heard that it takes too long to load before.
Please visit as often as you can.
And I will visit you as well.

Thanks for stopping in. Will see you again on June 6th.

I think there's something special happening that day.

How cool that there are Peace Globes all around the world! Unfortunately, I suspect the Bulgarian contingent may be flying their flags a little late. "7 ноември ще бъде първият Blogblast for Peace ден!" translates to '7 November will be first Blogblast for Peace day!' He goes on to describe the intent of BfP and explain how each blogger will use his own design on the same picture as background, so everyone surfing the net on that day (sadly, the wrong day per his post) will see the same picture and understand peace is called for by all. He concludes that he really hopes your effort will succeed. I think. I took Russian in college and that was rather a long while ago.

Now, about my own Peace Globe. I still can't figure out why my photo editor won't save my Peace Globe edits. Then again, I played hockey most of today, so I didn't have a whole lot of time to play with it. It's not that I don't want peace! Maybe my computer doesn't?

Karen dear, Your Russian is fine. This was last year's post from him.

I'm sending Bud to help you with your globe. He should arrive shortly. Just look for Hamied's cab.

P.S. I think Filip also describes you as the Queen. He is a very astute guy!

Mimi Lenox said...

Karen - If he describes me as the Queen then he's alright with me.
A very smart man!!! (he he)

P.P.S. I checked my own translation against AltaVista's Babel Fish online translator. Babel Fish came back with very little in the way of actual English...but what is there is VERY different from what I thought. Here are the English bits of the Babel Fish translation:

cabbage soup
Blogblast for Peace
mimi Lenox (sic)
picture
mineral fertilizer
blog on light
signed from you
concretely cabbage soup
picture. And kogato of 4 vidish into pet of bloga posledovatelno cabbage soup se zamislish, to pone for the bevel.
undertaking yes
camp

Clearly, very different takes on the text! I rather prefer my version, which is an unbiased opinion since I actually like cabbage soup. I'm not to sure about poning the bevel, though. That doesn't sound like something one is allowed do while married.

Last year! Oh, well then. I always did turn my Russian assignments in a little late...

Tell Bud we're watching hockey and have lots of beer. I'll kick Chris off the couch so Bud will be able to see the laptop screen when he gets here. Hamied can come in, too, but only if he's rooting for the Ducks. Same for Bud. Sens fan zone is in the compost heap out back.

Mimi Lenox said...

Uh oh. I guess Bud will have to stay in the taxi after all.
He's philosophically opposed to hockey...something about there "not being a ball."

I think I'll just have him email you.
