Me and A Memory Lane

So it was Sunday afternoon, the wedding went off without a hitch (ahem) and I decided to take a detour round a lonely road in the middle of the middle of the middle of nowhere.
To see my trees.

They are not Bloggingham's trees, but mine just the same. A tract of land given to me long ago by Papa which he inherited from his mother facing the spot where the house he grew up in once stood. I've never done anything with it and only once in all these years given serious thought to selling it. I just like to visit occasionally.
So I drove past this ....and this...

and this...

until I got here

I need his advice right now. Perhaps that's why I detoured toward pines and ponds this week, planting my pearls in the middle of briers.

What a nature girl I've become.

Maybe deep down I've always really loved the countryside even while railing against living "in the sticks" as a teenager and wanting to be anywhere else.
Have you noticed I'm always chasing trees?

I walked the property a bit, picking wild flowers and trying to reach pine cones for a friend from a too-tall-tree (to no avail) ...mostly just sitting in the sun and feeling the breeze on my face.
It was a beautiful day.

But the wind....it kept kicking up dust and reminding me of a few things I'd rather not be dealing with at all. Surely somewhere in that needle blown afternoon I'd find an answer to the puzzles left lately at my door. I could use Papa's wisdom. He would know exactly what to do and say. I so wanted him to pop out from behind a droopy limb and let me tell him what was troubling me.

He didn't.

So I sat under the branches of his childhood and listened to what the wind said.

Pondering where or not to chase that rabbit down the hole. Hmmmm...maybe I'd better not. Not a good idea when alone in the middle of the middle of the middle ....oh, you know.

And besides, given enough time and open road most rabbits tend to find their way out of a brier patch.

I can wait.

An approach might be to examine the fundamentals at their simplest. (Easier said than done, I know)

Mini, I am going to put all of those bits of photo of you together and make a composite picture of you and hang it on the wall of Eagerley Hall.
Probably look a bit like one of those police wanted posters! Or Frankenstien's monster.

Cogitator - Working on that, my friend.

Sir Tom - If you wanted a picture, all you had to do was ask.

Pondering is a good thing to do. The trees and the blue sky photos are magnificent.

I was once a city girl and I am now a country girl. I will take the country any day.

Hope you figure it all out.

Pam - Thank you. That one missing piece is always the worst to find. Patience has become my friend.
And a tad of forgiveness thrown in...I must. I must. I must.

Surely this person is not the one I know. Surely not. Or there is one hell of an explanation I am not privy to. But will soon enough know.

Life is strange and then it gets stranger it seems....

Lovely photos Mimi. It's good to get back to nature sometimes. :)

I've always been a nature boy. Even as a kid I just wanted to be in the woods.

I know that feeling. (Boy do I ever know that feeling.)

Time's on your side girl. Always is. Based on your comments, I'll only offer this:

Look at what's in front of you. Right now, at this moment, what do you see? Because everything -- everything -- that came before has gone into making exactly what you see right now. At this moment.

You have so much ahead of you Ms. Mimi and friends to hold your hand during the journey

Such beautiful countryside. A good place to ponder and think.
You'll find your way out of that brier patch... keep trusting your instincts. {HUGS}

Akelamalu - It really does clear my mind.

Charles - I don't think I could live in a place with no trees. There has to be at least ONE. At LEAST one.

"that came before has gone into making exactly what you see right now"....some comfort in that.
Thank you.

Talking with the trees is a great way to try to sort things out in your own mind; it probably beats the heck out of going to a cemetery and talking to a stone (which I do from time to time) that never answers back. At least when you're in the woods you get the whisper of the wind through the branches and the other woodsy noises.

Not sure which rabbit you're chasing right now but just bear in mind, if you go down the rabbit hole you may run into the likes of the Mad Hatter and if you think you were confused before - that should really put you over the edge!

Sending best wishes and good thoughts to you, my Queen!

Vinny - Looking forward to the journey. You and Miss Nancy are most excellent friends indeed. Also looking forward to seeing the two of you - soon!

Dawn - No problem with my instincts. The problem is that they usually prove out..even when I don't want them to.

GregJ - Hitching up your trousers? I'm sorry. That went right over my pencil head.

Do you know whose blog you're on?

Duchess Linda Friend - Are you sneezing in that new photo or just playing Queen pictures? Ha!

About that rabbit: sneaky little fella. And I am in no way afraid of the Mad Hatter. Pfffttt! Please.

You know what I think. Tomorrow is going to come anyway. A day, a month, a year...they are all going to happen whether you do something or not.

So what it comes down to is this...figure out what it is you want. Once you know what you want, put together your plan. Once you have your plan, consider the steps and lay them out. Once you have the steps, move your foot onto the first one.

It sounds simplistic, but it really is that simple. The problem is that it's just not so easy to execute sometimes.

Chasing Lepus with or without watches can be dangerous ... Remember even Gertrude stein found out that there was no there there.

Create new out of old places and you just might have something.

It seems very decadent to own a forest and only visit it occasionaly. NC seems to be a very nice place to live.
Having somewhere to go to 'ponder' is important; sometimes we have to do this inside our own heads!
