Monday Mimisms ~ I Know Of Snow (and other important rhymes)
Once in a reporter's life a story comes along that is so riveting, so powerful, so...so...so....stutter-inducing monumentally important that it changes the course of a career. I found such a story this weekend.
All the news stations predicted it. Some over-predicted it, some under-predicted, I even predicted they would predict it. I'm psychic that way. I got so tired of hearing about what I already knew about.
And what was this catastrophic occurrence?
Snow
2 feet of snow.
See?
(I crack myself up. Have you ever heard Katie Couric make jokes like that? I didn't think so.)
I was ready to report the biggest news story since sliced bread. Here it is. Just for you.
"I know of
snow"
So here I go
I ventured out
red hat in hand
the brightest
the loopiest
in all the land
I will throw
I will throw
a
snowball
at you
I will throw
I will throw
not onebut two
I smelled it
I touched it
I measured it fine
I named it Fluffy
I called it mine
I must have fallen
a thousand times
Oh dear, am I channeling Dr. Seuss?
It seems that my words have come quite loose
I know they're only trees to you
and a mess of branches in Bloggingham's blue
But it's different for me
I live with the bark
They see me off early
They greet me at dark
Their shelter is lovely
Their cover is true
Would I had a human
as sturdy
don't you?
I love them
I love them
I love them
I do
But not 'til today
this bright afternoon
had I noticed
my tree friends
had
shadows
too
casting long
long
looks
over
fresh
white
ghosts
I wonder which
trunk
stands
weeping
the most
and sometimes a droplet of
moist gentle rain
flew out of their fingertips
matched with my pain
I offered my shoulder
I urged them
you see
to lean on the solace
they'd given
to
me
I quietly soothed
their gnarls and
fear
and told them
their shadows
would soon

I walked and held vigil
under towers of
wood
finding strength in the bends
and the curves
when I could
I tried not to listen
I tried not to pry
but once in a while
I heard one of them
cry
It's alright my lovely
you'll soon be upright
your snow weeping
lasts
but one long winter's night
tomorrow the sky will take
blue
in your wings
and cast down your sorrow
for wonderful things

I LOVE your report! Around here, no snow would be news. But I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Felicitas - I am! It's weird to be "trapped" at home but nice too.
No school!
Wow. Just wow. Your camera is nothing to be ashamed of..the colors of the pictures and the strength of your phrasing. Wonderful~!
Love your Seuss impression. But that hat. My goodness it is redddddddddddddddddddddddd.
I really love
Red hats and spam
From m'am I am.
(Not that your blogpost resembles spam, in the slightest, it was the only thing I could think of that rhymed properly)
Well done my dear!
And falling down in the snow is expected. In fact, it may be imperative.
I'm back from my cruise and trying to catch up with everyone.
You make snow sound wonderful, you know I hate it right?
I think that I will
tell you true
that the sky you show
is the richest blue
And the snow on the ground
so white it lays still
that the shadows cast
by the trees on your hill
show the brightness of sun
and soon the snow will be done
but my words pale to thee
so I will close this you see
And by the way dear
to this oyu shall hear
you are still the brilliant writer I met long ago
and this I believe so
Julie - Oh...thank you but you know those photos of Vinny's last night were unbelievable. I need a new camera for sure.
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Charles - I do love red.
Cogitator - What a cute rhyme!
Travis - Thank you and ha! It may be imperative but must I fall so often?
Akelamalu - Welcome back! We have missed you. I'll be over right skippy to see what you and the Mr. have been up to.
Vinny Bee Bond Vinny - Awwww....it was a lovely rhyme. Many thanks.
And did you notice that the sky is Carolina Tarheel blue?
A very snowy post, with some super pics!
You had me about to weep for the trees. It was nice to end on a clear blue sky.
Looks like Hollydale in October ...
Jean-Luc - It is still snowy here. I can't see my driveway and it's been five days.
Jamie - My baby trees are suffering. I love them. I do!
Speedy - I guess snow is no phenomenon to you!
