The Interview ~ He Looked So Tall On My Wall
We interrupt our regularly scheduled Friday night blog to bring you an exclusive interview with Mimi Queen of Memes. The Gal Herself conducted the five question soiree and lived to tell it. You won't believe what she wants to know. The nerve!
But what a nice twist on an age-old meme. Here's how it works: Gal from One Gal's Musings left 5 questions for me in her blog comments and I answered them here. If YOU'D like to be interviewed by me, just tell me in the comment section below and I'll leave five questions for you to answer on your blog.
I'd love to!
5 QUESTIONS FOR MIMI from The Chicago Gal
1) Who was your very first crush, and how old were you?
His poster hung on my wall and I kissed it periodically when my mother wasn't looking. I must have listened to DayDream Believer a million times. It was almost a religious experience (what can I say? I was 12...) That's saying a lot since the song has one of the worst lyrical lines I've ever heard: "The shaving razor's cold and it stings." Oh please. I could never sing that with a straight face. But what did I know? I was just impressed that a guy I "knew-in-the-Biblical-wall-kissing-sense" at my age needed to shave in the first place.
Funny thing. I did some research on him today. He is now 63 years old and only stands 5'3" tall. He didn't look so minuscule on the album cover I
But oh, what a cutie pie he was. I didn't care when I was twelve.
He looked so tall on my wall.
2) You have a truly magical Magic 8 ball that gives you a direct line to anyone who ever lived -- who would you use it to communicate with?
Elie Wiesel -
Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 and author of over 57 books on the Holocaust. His memoir of life in a concentration camp at the age of 15, Night, is a cherished possession of mine. Every human being on the planet should read it. It's presence on my bookshelf reminds me of what we must not forget. Wiesel's message today is one of atonement and peace. Amidst his Jewish writings and political activism you will find a transparent man struggling to make sense of a most horrific personal world with more than six million reasons to throw his God away. Forgiveness is at the core of who he is. Wiesel is one of those writers I credit with profoundly changing me from the inside out.
Words do that. And his are powerful.
Side note! and this is truly sad: December 2008, the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity issued a press release on their website stating that nearly all of the foundation's assets (approximately $15.2 million USD) have been lost through Bernard Madoff's investment firm.
3) Your blog has a great balance of words and pictures -- do you consider yourself more verbal or visual?
(*pic for you, Gal!*)
Definitely verbal. Sometimes a picture will inspire a post
Even if he is vain and insane.
4) Thinking about the men in your life -- is there a common trait that they share?
They're gone.
That IS the first thought that popped in my pencil head.
Let's just leave it at that. Or you can wait for the release of my new tell-all sensational blaperback (that's blog + paperback for all you non-blog speakers) entitled Bloggingham Blues.
Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.....thanks, Davy.

5) If you met someone EXACTLY LIKE YOU at a party, what would you like about her?
Her wit and her naturally curly hair. I always wanted to say that!
Then I'd ask who she thinks she is wearing my crown like that. There's only one Queen ya know...

Here's my Davy at 61 years old singing "DayDream Believer".
I wonder if he remembers my room...

That is such a funny post. I too loved the Monkees, but my favorite one was Mickey Dolenz because he was such a goof and funny. He always made! me laugh
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Looks like you got lipstick on your monitor! LOL!
Great answers Mimi! Yanno I'd play along except I'm half afraid of the questions you might ask!
BTW: I totally agree with question #2... it was required reading when Justine was in high school so we both read it.
Davy Jones still looks good to me! ;)
I thought Davy Jones was the one whom played the castanets...
Are you really publishing a book?
Gal did great questions and your answers were fantastic. Davy Jones. I never knew...
I'm British, like Davy Jones!
my first crush was probably either Bat Girl or Yeoman Rand from STar Trek.
Does Davy Jones age? Good for him. You could see he was short on the TV show if you looked closely. But that is pretty short. Doesn't matter, he's led an amazing life.
Eli Wiesel - is an amazing guy and it sickens me that Madoff destroyed his foundation as well as many other charities. I've met a few people that have been in the holocaust or had relatives that died there at my synagogue and the stories are just chilling. One woman goes around giving lectures on it, very lovely woman.
I'd say my first crush was Christie Brinkley. I was an excellent jude even in my childhood.
Pam - Mickey was hysterical. Those were the days...
Lois - I plead the 5th. I really need to speak to Homer about his manners.
Dawn - It is required reading here too. A life-changing book for sure.
What do you mean you're afraid of the questions I might ask? I promise to be kind....
Akelamalu - I think he has aged quite well!
Crushed - Why? Do you know a publisher? .....
P.S. Bud - Now I'm wondering what I did divulge when we were together....did I tell you about the circus? If I did, please don't blog it until you talk to me!
Oh Lord....
Jean-luc - I never knew! But I knew I liked you.
Charles - Bat Girl is a great choice. She was a great addition to the story!
Ricardo - I didn't care and really still don't. I need to get over the vertical thing with guys anyway. I am petite. What was I thinking??!
Wiesel is, and always has been, my personal hero. Brilliant man with a humble heart. It is disgusting to read of the ramifications of Madoff's actions. I can't believe it ruined this great man's financial work. How truly awful.
Christie was an excellent choice!
You may already have this but I, too, have given you a well-deserved "Big Love Award" at:

Kathleen - I read your lovely post. Thank you so much. I have placed it in my sidebar (aka Bloggingham's Trophy Room)
I'm so proud that I got an audience with Your Royal Highness, and that my interview yielded such positive results! My best friend is a Wiesel devotee, and even though the news about Madoff is sad, I know he wanted to hear it. Great photo of George Clooney. (Thanks) He's more than handsome, he's so FUNNY!
Ah, Davy! He was really the only Monkee worth worshipping, wasn't he? Mike was pretentious, Peter seemed stoned, Micky got that perm on year that made him look like the fourth Brady Boy. But Davy! Since I'm just 5'2, I like the idea of being with a guy who lives down here with me.
Thanks for palying. This was great fun.
Gal - Glad you enjoyed Clooney. I heard today that he has a new girlfriend. McCartney is gone and now this!!!
Well, since no one else offered to drink the Kool-Aid, I'll dive right in:
Would you interview me, please?
