Saturday 9: A Father's Day Meme

Crazy Sam is crazy. And I say that with the highest regard. This prolific blogger from Rhode Island posts "just a silly meme" every Saturday. I typically like her questions except the one time she posted about tattoos. But I'm sure she was just having a blond moment or something. Lucky for me, I visited again. Today she has come up with a non-silly pre-Father's Day meme that I like. Here goes my first attempt at Sam's Saturday 9. I will refrain from silly. Maybe.

1. How long since you have been with your dad?

A few weeks ago for a visit at his house. We talked about his tomato plants (see pic of actual tomatoes grown by my dad),
my job, my love life, and why he STILL insists on attempting to mow the lawn by himself. Needless to say, he won that argument. And I got no advice on my love life. He just rolled his eyes.

2. How many siblings share your dad?

There are four of us. I am the oldest mostseasoned
er.....wisest among them. Ask anybody. Go ahead.

3. Will you see your dad tomorrow?
Yes. And if he's looking, he will see me.

4. Do you give him gifts on Father’s Day?

He hates it when I bring gifts. Really. First of all it is a big no-no in my family for me to bring anything I cooked so that means I must shop. It will most likely be a plant (those I don't have to cook...do I?) or something to do with his favorite team, the one-and-only-basketball-team-God-ever-created, the Carolina Tarheels. I expect to hear "You didn't need to bring me anything, Sis." And then he'll put on the hat I brought and sit down to eat yet another tomato sandwich.

5. Have you ever had a tough time in your relationship with your father?

Yes, when I chose not to go to Carolina.

6. What was the last thing that you did with your dad?

Our last outing before the aforementioned tomato/love life discussion was a family picnic with aforementioned siblings. He is happiest when all his children appear at once. It's almost like he counts us as we come in the door...."There's #1, #2, #3, #4.....and then the grandchildren lagging behind. Now, there is a great-grandchild (My baby boy. Go here for yesterday's post to see him hiding in the closet) who is remarkably like my own inquisitive son at that age. Go figure. And please, don't ask what he was doing in the closet. But it had something to do with "No nap time for me and I mean it!!"
For the record, he did not win that argument.

7. Growing up, was your dad tough on you?

Very. And most of the time I thought he was totally unfair. His favorite line was "Because I said so."
I swore I'd never say it to my child.
I did.

8. Are you close to your father?

Since his illness began several years ago we made our peace. Today, we are closer than we've ever been in our lives. Growing up, a hug and a kiss out the door was unheard of. Now, those are usually accompanied by I-love-yous as well. It is nice.

9. How long since you have spoke to him?

Yesterday on the phone. I was bitten by a spider while cleaning the castle - planted I'm sure by one of those meme dodgers in the dungeon to do me in - and he gave me advice on dealing with spider bites. He was bitten by a Brown Recluse once while tinkering in his wood shop and was sick for months and months.

Did you know that a paste made from meat tenderizer will draw out the poison? What did I need a doctor for? Daddy had the answers!

And my arm is much better this morning. Thanks for asking.

But you people in the dungeon are in serious trouble.....
And Sam, just for the record. I've been watching your Saturday memeing ways for some time. Don't think you're gonna come around here usurping my meme Queen power. You're really cute with that frisky blond hair and all but there's only one meme Queen around here. See aforementioned dungeon.

Do you think she has a crown?!

My mom liked to say "because I said so" and it drove me crazy. I swore I would never say that to my kids. LOL But I failed miserably. I have found that I do and say a lot of things that my mom did!

Great meme. I don't know if I could do this one, since my dad's been gone so long (so, it's been a while since we talked - although we "talk" if you know what I mean).

Shannon - It's so true!

Bud - That's what I'm talking about!

Songbird - Yes, I know what you mean by "talking"...I do that with my grandfather all the time. Hugs to you on this Father's Day.

Sounds like you and your family have a fun relationship. No cooking for you, either, huh? I don't cook very often.

Glad your spider bite is better. Thanks for the tip about meat tenderizer!

A lovely post your Majesty but aren't you supposed to be on Blogation or whatever the word is for blog + vacation! Did you cut it short or are you now well-rested and ready to go again?

I'am glad that your nasty spider bite is better. Thank God for the wisdom of Daddies...
I'am sure that your Father's day will be extra special. Enjoy , today and all the days in between.

My own Dad has gone on to a more peaceful place since almost 10 years now.Hardly a day passes with a thought towards him.

Hugs.
