Reason #26 To Fly A Peace Globe ~ Mexican Drug War

Here's reason #26......

Mexican Drug War
Began 2006
4100 casualties

It is similar to the Colombian drug war
Where? Mexico
Who? Government military forces in Mexico and rival
drug cartelsWhy? Mexico's president Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa sent 6500 troops in December 2006 to put an end to the drug cartel in Michoagan .It was the first major retaliatory attack against drug violence. There are now over 25,000 government troops in the war against drugs in Mexico.
Amid accusations of corruption a gun battle erupted in the state of Baja California (Tijuana), which is the northernmost state in Mexico. Rival cartels used AK-47s and AK-15s. Nine hundred people have already died in 2008 as the result of rival gang wars.

Although direct military involvement is opposed by the United States and the Mexican military, the US has funded 1.4 billion dollars to Mexico to assist in the war on drugs.
The Mexican border remains a hot spot of illegal drug trafficking into the United States.

Right: the border of Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Mexico. USA side is on the left, the Mexican side is on the right.

My 2 cents: While the sensationalism of criminal activities involving drug cartels and violent drug gangs dominant the news in the United States, as well as other parts of the world, the real issue at stake is where the drugs end up.
On the street.
On your street. On my street. In your child's school. In your neighborhood. In your home. In mine. Trickled down into the hands of low-level drug dealers who sell their poison to our young people. It is a culture unlike none other in its power to kill and destroy - starting with the heinously violent crimes committed by sophisticated greedy drug dealers in search of power and territory, and ending with our children's addictions and deaths. When I read about plants being produced in Colombia, siphoned through Mexico and brought to my home turf and see the results in the thousands of ruined lives in this country (and elsewhere), I would challenge anyone to question whether or not this should be classified as a "war."
The weapon of choice is different but no less deadly.
I am appalled by the needless suffering in my world.
If words are powerful, then this matters.

Come on. Join the Revolution.

The same thing will happen here as the United States is where most of those drugs end up. Gangs are taking over in our area and it isn't pretty. Yep, this is another good reason. Have a great evening Mimi. Big hug and lotsa lovies. :)

The legal drugs will eventually put the illegal ones out of business and then the pushers we'll have to worry most about will be the drug corporations. Hum, it's already happening.

I would definitely call it a war. I've seen families destroyed by drug addiction.
