It is with great sadness to learn today that Bobbie passed away. She authored the blog Almost There and was one of my favorite and most faithful peace bloggers. She was a passionate peace blogger and often wrote promotional posts to encourage others to join. This was her last globe (#1485) from the 2009 launch and as you can see, she was family-oriented and thoughtful about our world.....just a lovely person. Her sidebar is filled with many causes she cared about and wrote about. Her daughter who is also a blogger, wrote a beautiful tribute on her mother's blog. She is particularly thankful that her mom's words live on and spoke of the love she had for her internet friends - how close she was to them and interested in their lives.
Bobbie is that type of spirit.
I love the quote at the top of her blog which reads:
Traveler, the path is nothing more than your footsteps; traveler, there is no path, a path is made as you go. You make the path as you go, and on looking back you see a trail that never can be walked again. Traveler, there is no path, only a wake in the sea. - Antonio Machado

What I find even more incredible are the words I found in Bobbie's
last post, written June 14th on the day she had her heart attack. It was early morning and she let her mind wander, not sure of what to say but knowing she had to say
something. How many of us do the same thing each time we sit down to write a post? For some reason that morning, her mind began to meander down a nostalgic road and she reflected on the path her life took from a young girl moving to New York on a whim, meeting the love of her life, and landing many years later with a family in New Jersey at a slower pace with many changes and wisdom stops along the way. She wrote that her thoughts were "turning back in time" and said,
"but my own life is winding down and I find I have memories enough to get by on. My computer allows me to "travel" wherever I wish and to stay in contact with the rest of the world"......Why did she choose to write those words on June 14th?
Ah. But we know now.
Travel on, my friend, travel on.
I have chills thinking of the journey you have just begun.
Peace.

It was a beautiful tribute. Thank you for passing it on.
oh i'm so sorry. but your tribute is awesome. i've got goosebumps! this is beautiful!
I'm very sorry to hear that. We don't need to be losing our good ones.
Her final post puts me in mind of the Beatles (which is the highest praise possible for this Old Gal). One of the last songs Paul and John ever sang together publicly is "Two of Us," with the lyric, "You and I have memories longer than the road the stretches on ahead." When the album was released, Paul was 28 and John was not yet 30, so the lyric seemed so premature.
Except that John was dead at 40. So the lyric turned out to be true.
Because "Mimi writes ...." I know words are important to you. So I'm glad you have Bobbie's words to return to. Her posts will help you feel closer to her while she's on that journey, I just know it.
You and me both doing obituaries. *hug*s to you
Mark
I didn't know Bobbi but I have seen a few tributes to her, she was obviously well liked.
Tears in my eyes for the loss of a friend, mother, grandmother and just plain beautiful person. Now her path has a special glow.
Thank you for this lovely tribute. It means alot. Just to note - Barbara Joan was *her* name. Thank you so much, Kitty, Bobbie's daughter
Dawn - She was well loved in many places.
Stef - I'm sure her family could use all the support they can get.
Charles - From what I've read, she was an exceptionally "good one"...
Gal - Thanks for sharing that with us. I'd forgotten that bit of Beatle's history. I'm glad her children and family have her wonderful posts.
Cogitator - I will be over soon. I read it earlier, about your musician friend, and wasn't able to comment at the time. It was a beautifully written tribute.
Akelamalu - Yes, she was.
Jamie - I hope her journey is peaceful and full of wonderful things.
Kitty - I apologize for making that mistake. I obviously misread the combination somewhere or just plain got it wrong. I will correct it asap.
My sympathies to you and your family. As you can see, so many folks appreciated her contributions and writing.
what a beautiful tribute, Mimi. My she find peace...
Sooner or later, that's a fate we all have ahead of ourselves...
A lovely tribute to your friend...
I am sorry for your loss...
~shoes~
And Miles To Go - Amen to that.
Shoes - She was a lovely person.
Anonymous - DELETE. It's bad enough you spew your garbage on my regular posts but leaving this on someone's memorial post is beyond low.
GO AWAY.
Oh (((Mimi)))
So sorry for your losss of a blog friend. You really wrote her a wonderful farewell.
Her own last post really is beyond words... it's as if a part of her knew, even if not consciously. I'm glad Bobbie had a chance to say goodbye and leave such a wonderful end to her life story. What a beautiful end to a beautiful life.
I needed that. A blog friend of mine took his life this year. It was at a time I was ill and I came back to his blog a week too late. The pain of finding his last farewell when I was far too late to do anything was truly PAIN-full.
These blogs, these words we share with each other... we never realise how deep the connections are until something severs them.
((hugs))
