Monday Mimisms ~ Sometimes Life Is Tangled

If who we perceive ourselves to be
is the opposite of who we really are
then mirrors don't lie

we
 do

somewhere under this hat

I am most profoundly happy

beneath bridges and waters and moons
shade made from stitches
and saltwet fear

I've fallen into the brightness of dawn
to discover that no one on God's green shoreline knows
who I am

it had nothing to do with where I was
or who I loved
 it had everything to do
with how

 and only I

and this hat
know how many lies the mirror told

I'd like to find a nice long mimosa tree
and stretch out for the bodacious unwinding of a mile-high story or three
somewhere on stable dry land
I'm long overdue for a college-ruled adventure with my trusty No. 2
there's no telling what the untelling will do
because I know her like the back of that brim you see

and I wouldn't trade one thousand mimosas
or ten miles of glassy shore

for that
