Reason #40 to Blog4Peace ~ Vision

Do you ever wonder if the way we look at the world can change the world?
If I look at the grocer down the street when he loads my car with grocery bags, I mean really look at him eye-to-eye instead of dodging a glance because I'm in a hurry - I make a connection. It makes a difference in the way we interact with each other, this time and the next time.  If I don't make eye contact and mumble a quick 'thank you' I might as well be thanking the concrete. I usually get a grunt back or nothing at all. That is a wasted opportunity to become part of someone's day in a positive way.

When I tumbled into a few epiphanies back in June in the car-that-would-not-stop, one of the promises I made myself was to stop avoiding eye contact with people when I'm in a hurry, or when I don't know them personally (like a sales clerk or a waitress) or when I'm annoyed. I've found it has made a world of difference in the way I choose to approach people now. And each time I offer that small (but big!) gesture of respect, I feel empowered in myself and connected in a way that is true.

Can my world change one human interaction at a time?
I think I just answered that question.

I like this reason a lot.

I like this reason too. Reminds of the time I asked my waitress if she liked her job. The look on her face was priceless. It took her a second or two before she could even reply.
