Beach Blogging Video #2 ~ The Attack of The Terminator Crab

Seashore Commandment #10: Thou Shalt Not Kick Sand At An Angry Crab
Why didn't one of you tell me? I can't be bothered with such rules - I have a castle and an imaginary dog to take care of. Who knew??!

I actually thought this little monstrosity in the sand was a windup toy.

Until it bit the man standing in the water.
He looks like a Steven Spielberg 3-D special effect.
I call him Crabby The Terminator.
He is actually a "ghost crab" commonly found on Atlantic shorelines from Rhode Island to Southern Brazil and goes by the rather auspicious name of "ocypode quadrata". Ghost crabs were once thought of as occult, secretive aliens from the depths of the sea. Crabby ghost picked a heckadoodle-of-a-day to meet royalty.

I reached for my camera and caught his dance in the sand as he tried to escape the little boy's probing shovel. Of course, I, being the daredevil Queen that I am, got a little too close....and ended up doing a little dancing of my own. The strange man with the very southern accent offered to rescue me but I told him "nooooo.....I'm making a movie."
This was not a good move.
Retreat is a very good word.

That doesn't look like a crab to mess about with!

Awww he's a cute little sweetie pie. A classic example of why you shouldn't eat anything with a face. Pass the melted butter.

So why do I now have "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid stuck in my head? That guy does look a little like Sebastian's younger, yellow cousin, though!

Glad your queenly toes stayed far enough away from danger during your epic film-making! And it was lovely to hear your voice again!

It has 8 legs and walks sideways. That qualifies it as a NCELM.

I'm officially askeered.

Linda - And thank you for NOT pointing out that I have a slight GULP southern accent.
That kept you straighway out of the dungeon.

Although...I did read what you said about me and Ellie Clampett on Facebook. Uh huh. I saw that!

Travis - You didn't watch the video did ya.

Awesome video! They say the stars with the most compelling screen presence (like Garbo) were famous for holding something back. I'd say your charismatic star learned the lesson well.

Mimi Lenox said...

Gal - But I was the star!!!!
**hear me sob**

The Gal Herself said...

OK, so the yellowish fellow may have been the star. But don't forget, film is a director's medium so you are THE POWER!

Great little flick!
But throwing sand on the poor little thing?! Bet that made him crabby!

Those little beggars have been the death of many, many new sea turtle hatchlings trying to make their way from the nest to the water. To look at them you wouldn't think they could do that kind of damage would you?

And yet.
