Dandelions and Daffodils

I went for a walk this afternoon. I mean a real walk. As in 15-minute miles on my usual power walking insanity 4-mile routine. Do the math. It takes an hour. And everything would have been just fine and dandy had I not looked down and almost stepped on a dandelion. What??! A dandelion!!? Something bloooooming?
And to think I nearly squished it. A sprig sprouting something other than snow and ice in Bloggingham's earth? I ran for the camera hereby abandoning the fitness task at hand. See how dedicated and fickle I am?
This camellia bush has two different varieties of flowers on the same tree.
It always amazes me. Something went very right in the gene pool that day.
(taken from underneath the bush which stands about 10 feet tall and is full of blooms)Turns out Camellia is shy... It was time to roam around for awhile.....They were calling to me. I had to go.
Daffodils in the woods and under trees and beside rocks and so my socks...
had to go too.

This one turned away while I took off my shoes.

And then I watched something akin to magic in the setting sun take place before my eyes. The walk would wait. God's paper thin paintbrush painted shadows in light

The dance
The dance
oh the dance of the daffodils

This just might be a holy thing

Photography: Mimi Lenox
P.S. I did finish the walk - a tad more alive.

Such beautiful flowers! I can't wait for the blooming to start up here... in the Great White North! They're calling for snow this weekend (Rrrgh!!).

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare

Shy flowers eh? I'm glad to see you had a day to commune with the nature around you. That has to give you a wonderful boost.

That's a beautiful post and very creative photography. We have snowdrops, crocuses and, just today, the first daffodils over here, just east of London.
I was on a three hour guided walk today through a local nature reserve in the Roding Valley. The River Roding eventually leads into the Thames. This is the best part of the year. I just might blog about it!

Dawn - Thank you. But YOU are the real photographer here. I just love pointing and shooting.
I do love the daffodils especially though. They smile back at me when I'm out walking!

Starr - I am glad you got a shiver of spring.....I wish they would stick around longer than they do.

Travis - You know, this afternoon I was ragged tired but walked anyway (crazy person that I am) I didn't think I'd make it through the hour but now I just feel wonderful and energized.

This was like a slightly late birthday present. They are my flowers and the brilliant yellow always makes me feel that it is worth being alive just to see them every year.

Lovely poem.

I am sad that it has been so long since I have stopped by, especially now that I'm here. What a warm & fuzzy overcoming me...

Flowers are unfrick'nbelievable. Your words are hilarious. You're a doll.

See you again soon.
