Mimi In A Minute #11 ~ Pirates and Public Displays of Affliction

These things keep me up at night.
They give me a headache.
I just need sixty seconds of your time to unclog my pencil brain so that I can get some sleep.
Do you mind? I have a few things to say.
This is Mimi unplugged.

Hide your children.

To Susan Boyle the overnight singing sensation from Britain's Got Talent:

You are 47 and just launched your dream.
I love you for this fact alone.

Does it bother you that your Congressmen are now
Twittering?
Don't they have important stuff to do?
There are pirates to catch!

(Newsflash! Looking for a guy with a ticket for Springsteen. Has anybody seen SPRING??!)

Drive-By Bloggers: Would it kill ya to leave a comment? On second thought......

I want the
Lie To Me cast to interview Jason the Bachelor. Cause I have nooooo clue if he's telling the truth. (cliff notes: He dumped Molly proposed to Melissa by the water dumped Melissa proposed to Molly on TV) Now, His Gorgeousness proclaims on The Ellen Show... "In a weird way, I've always been in love" yada yada yada. MEN!!!

Dear Mr. Chavez: Yo! I don't blame you for shaking the President's hand.
A curtsy would have been just rude. Yo!

To the school nurse who strip searched a 13-year-old girl on suspicion of Ibuprofen:If you needed an aspirin, you should have just asked.
What were you thinking?

To Adam Lambert on American Idol:
When you win, try to look surprised.

To Miss California: On your gay-marriage answer in the Miss USA Pageant which cost you the crown.Have I taught you NOTHING??!

I personally believe such as totally like such as that like well that I don't agree with your such as answer but I totally respect your radical right to express an opposing view.

Has anybody seen SPRING??!

and finally........

Dear Mr. President Obama:
You got it all wrong. Handshake the cook. Jog the dog.

Fist bump the Queen. High-five all South American leaders and lead all pirates to the plank. It's in the Presidential Handbook of International Etiquette p. 48.

Oh. And curtsy to your mother-in-law.

Whew! I feel better. Thanks for listening.

Sixty seconds flew by. I think my blogsomnia is cured.
Lights out.

P.S. I checked the PDA Handbook.
Today, it's OK to hug a tree.

It's Earth Day.

AS we've said earlier, Adam is a shoo-in. But I agreed with Randy that this top 7 should all have success. Anoop is the only possible exception. Funny post. Laugh out loud funny...

I don't know if I've ever told you this or not, but I so appreciate you watching all those reality shows so I don't have to. I personally love you for that alone, yo.

And I missed it, but did Miss Teen South Carolina move to California or something?

Thanks. I've always wanted to say that!

Word verification is 'duckeric'... that should be a real word. I can think of several meanings for it ;)

Ditto your comment on Susan Boyle.

As always, you make me smile. The same circus runs through my head too.

excellent points throughout...you nailed this one

Mimi Lenox said...

ree - So you're the lurker! Welcome. I love comments.

Mimi Lenox said...

Katherine - I bow to your succcintness!
smile

Mimi Lenox said...

Bud - You know how I feel about Adam but really.....Anoop has talent, he just has no clue what to do with it.

Mimi Lenox said...

Mojo - So glad I could be of assistance!

Oh...that Miss South Carolina was a mess. But did you know that Miss North Carolina won the Miss USA Pageant? Her question was less controversial.

Mimi Lenox said...

Dawn - Duckeric is an interesting pile of alliteration.

Mimi Lenox said...

Songbird - I hope she doesn't change a thing about herself. Nothing.

Mimi Lenox said...

Summer - I know! Sometimes I should blog what doesn't run through my head. That made absolutely no sense.

Hence, I should blog it.

Mimi Lenox said...

Bond - So glad you approve! Do I get a reward? A prize?

First and most important -- I've been firmly in Adam's corner since Day 1 but last night I actually liked Danny better. And he has the whole widower thing going for him, while there might be some unfortunate backlash about Adam's sexuality. (Though I believe that, as a nation, we're more than ready for our first Gay Idol.) So I predict it will be a bit more of a race as we head toward the finals.

I'm not sure you want "Drive By Bloggers" to leave comments. There were a pair of bloggers who regularly left comments on my TTs just to get their links out there, and they made me NUTS! If my post's title was, "MY 13 FAVORITE BEATLE SONGS," they would leave comments like, "I hate the Beatles." Or, "I never heard of the Beatles." You get the idea. Why would anyone waste their time on a post topic of no interest to them, and then waste the author's time with a comment? Yet they did it, week after week. (I'm starting to hyperventilate.)

Ms Boyle was put on as the 'comedy spot', I've heard, but it backfired on the producers.

Speedcat Hollydale said...

You put a picture of Chavez on your blog .... OMG ((shock)) Will Obama shake Bin Laden's hand next??

Miss California said nothing wrong. That question had no place in "Miss America" - PERIOD. Perez used this contest as a political ploy, simple as that. What if everyone was asked this same question? Facts are that the country is pretty well split on gay marriage. This means statistically that about half of the pageant contestants would have answered the same way, OR LIED.

As much as I think Miss America is a bunk showcase of talent / intellect ... lets be honest here. Every winner looks the same - perfect. It seems now you need to be hot AND liberal. Imagine for a moment that this situation was turned around the other way, and a contestant was scutinized for being pro gay marriage. There would be protests all over the country!!

Radical right? Constitutional Right.

It was a Very Stupid question ... she was not running for public office. Now, if a contestant said she was gay, that would be different - and she would deserve fair treatment as well.

We are doomed as a country if we cannot get passed our differences. Maybe someday we will see a person, not a liberal or conservative, gay or strait, black or white. "Just a human" ... with equal and God given rights to be as we are without judgement.

Susan Boyle gives me hope for maybe getting a seat in the Colorado Orchestra...someday.

BTW-I didn't mean to slam abuse victims who stay, it was kind of a "you go get yourself some power, girl!" kind of a thing. Hope it wasn't taken the wrong way...

Southern (in)Sanity said...

When the Miss USA Pageant has an internet celebrity gossip hack like Perez Hilton as a judge, that's the first problem.

Then allowing him to ask such a controversial question is even worse. Then he wants to continue bashing her after the pageant is over and done with, calling her a "dumb b*tch" and other names?

Please.

Kudos to Miss California for stating her beliefs - even if it did cost her the title.

Mimi Lenox said...

Gal - Danny's song was not my favorite last night but his vocals never go astray. Adam's sexuality is of no consequence to me and I hope it is not an issue with the general public. I choose to believe it won't be.

Spammers are the reason I've had to use word verification for awhile. There are all kinds of scams to gain backlinks and steal your traffic through the use of the comment function. They DID have a reason for leaving the link. We shall see how long I have to keep this up.

And go, Allison (!) - she reminds me of Bonnie Raitt in a 16-yr-old body. I want her to do a slow ballad next time but I'm not sure she should veer from the rockin' that's bringing her so much success right now.

LOVE Kris. He sings from his soul.
It's a happy place.

Mimi Lenox said...

Jean-luc - I didn't know that. Ha!

Michelle said...

Never mind men in uniform, pirate garb does it for me!

*sigh*

How you been keeping Mimi? I haven't been around in far too long, but I am twittering the twibes (which makes me feel like Tweety bird).

Mimi Lenox said...

Akelamlau - Yes, in Arkansas. It's been all over the news here. The poor kid.

Mimi Lenox said...

Eric - I recall a similar bristle when former President Bush invited Vladmir Putin to his Texas ranch and then visited Russia. Different scenario. Same bristle.

My spoof of the "greetings" President Obama has used throughout his foreign visits and summit talks are just that: spoofs. I made reference to the Queen of England, including pirates and planks and even Obama's dog. I used a picture of Chavez to illustrate my point (he looks as though he is high-fiving and holding up my fictitious Etiquette book). The handshake that apparently has shaken the world is a hot topic of discussion these days. I neither condoned or condemned it. My use of his picture is in no way a political curtsy to one of the worst critics of my country.

I am surprised that you would consider "I don't blame you for shaking the President's hand. A curtsy would have been just rude" as anything but a disregard for the importance given the whole buzz about the handshake controversy in the first place, perhaps even a joke at the expense of Chavez. And I sincerely hope you are not suggesting that I would think it acceptable for the President of the United States to shake hands with Osama Bin Ladin.

Taking a breath.....moving on to Miss California.

Mimi Lenox said...

Eric - My "Radical Right" was more an attempt at humorous alliteration than a categorization of her politics. I actually applaud the fact that she had the guts to answer the question truthfully for herself and not cave to political correctness. The question was actually about states rights and legislation, not her own belief system. But when contestants are coached to respond "I personally believe...." as a preamble to every answer, I guess the personal beliefs tend to follow.

I said, "I totally respect your radical right to express an opposing view. was a COMPLIMENT as in "I admire your guts" (perhaps I didn't make that clear) and not a branding or criticism of our difference of opinion on the issue. Strike that. I hate the term "political" in the context of the gay rights controversy. I prefer to think of it as a human discussion about human beings and their individuality.

That being said, I love this part of your comment, "We are doomed as a country if we cannot get passed our differences. Maybe someday we will see a person, not a liberal or conservative, gay or strait, black or white. "Just a human" ... with equal and God given rights to be as we are without judgement."I also wish that people on different sides of the issues (as you and I sometimes are) could stop jumping to conclusions based on our party affiliations. All Democrats do not believe the same things. Neither do all Republicans. I love the varying shades of grey between all of us.

I respect your opinions, Speedy. Thank you for commenting and being passionate about your
beliefs.
I will never boo you here.
Neither should she have been.

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Breath!

No ... I certainly do not think you would approve of the president shaking hands with Bin Ladin. Maybe in an "over-reactive" way I was making light of the media frenzy. The thing about Chavez is that you will actually find support for the man amoung communists in our country. They LIKE him. Not much is said about Chavez and his ties with extreamists, rebels, and leaders that would love to see America destroyed.
Your reference to Bush is very much true of all our past presidents. They do face a thin line of diplomacy and rejecting radical idealism when traveling the globe.

Speedcat Hollydale said...

Mimi .... here is what I love about you so much! You and I do differ on many topics, but have always "talked" about them. I think talking is good. Seems every other place on the web you will find anger, name calling, and bitterness when any "political" issue is raised. I like it here :-)

As for gay rights being political, I guess for the moment it is just that. Just South of me in Iowa legislation has changed ... it is still the same here. Strange that people living in the same country can have different laws that may apply to practically neighbors.

Thanks for a interesting exchange of thoughts.

Will I be sent to the dungeon???

LOL

Mimi Lenox said...

Autumn - I can see you in that orchestra. Get started, girl!

(No offense taken. I know what you meant.)

Mimi Lenox said...

Southern - I had not heard that he continued the bashing after the pageant and said those things. How awful.

I respect her for having the guts to say what she feels as well.

Mimi Lenox said...

K. The hyperventilation is over now....

HAPPY Birthday, Eric!

Mimi Lenox said...

Eric - Great idea! Off to the dungeon with ya!

Happy now? (smile)

Well planned, Eric, well planned.

No wonder the Queen can't sleep well. You have SO much in there!

So true about Adam.....at least I think you're right!

Though Miss CA rambled an awful jumbled up opinion I give her props for speaking her mind and also for saying that she'll pray for Hilton...I hope he can find better adjectives for describing people. And I hope she can learn to express herself more fluently.

Travis Cody said...

Congress is full of twits you say? Wait...you didn't say that?

Oh.

HA! My word verification was kasili. Get it? Sound it out. Kay-silly.

Bwahahahahahahaaa!

Julie - I wish everybody could be as forgiving and tactful as you are, my friend.

Mimi Lenox said...

Michelle - You are twittering the twibes? Love it! I wish everyone would twitter the twibes....

I've been busy, on vacation, busy, yada yada. I need to catch up with you!

Oops, I've been pretty much of a drive-by blogger recently, mainly because Google Reader doesn't let me comment, plus I'm infinitely lazy. Agree with your comment on Adam Lambert, and I suspect it could equally apply to Susan Boyle.
