If The Elections Were Held Today I Would....

...vote for the candidate who could do something about this.

I just paid $20.00 for five gallons of gas. What's worse is that I decided to pump my own because of the extra expense and the insane lines. Everyone knows I don't pump my own gas. I hate the smell, always manage to spill it on my shoe and just don't want to be bothered with it. Roll down the window, ask the nice man to do it for me and he even cleans my windshield.

People always stare when I'm wearing my crown. Staying in the car is best.

Besides, anything that comes with a warning label on it just isn't a good idea for me. I could blow up or something. Heck. I could blow up the whole town! It could happen!

Or worse.
I could break a nail.

Oh the humanity.

In the same town within 20 minutes I found several different prices - and from the same brand station. What is the problem??!! Right. We're having a hurricane in the south. Uh huh. I get it. Supply and demand. I get it!!

Gas prices rose over $1.00 a gallon overnight in my little town. By Sunday morning I expect it to be around $6.00 per gallon. That is the rumor here.

I-N-S-A-N-I-T-Y..

I called my mother to warn her and make sure they have full tanks. She said there was NO gas in their small little town and the nearest town's gas prices were $4.89 a gallon with a limit of 10 gallons per customer.

I used to go to town with my dad when I was around 10 years old and gas was a quarter a gallon. I know that dates me back to the days of Noah's Ark but seriously people, this has to stop. How can average middle-class families afford to heat their homes and drive to work? Not to mention the incredibly high prices at the grocery store. A can of green beans is 92 cents at Walmart. At Walmart??! Why are the candidates taking potshots at each other instead of hunkering down to the business of what it takes to get us out of this mess? How many families could have been fed with the money spent making YouTube wars? I want to hear about the everyday American domestic issues we face that are causing folks to lose their homes, their dignity, and their hope. Would one of the candidates please make a video about what this economy is doing to the working class? Don't get me started.

Elderly people
do choose between their medicines and groceries. It happens all the time. Now they can't buy gas to get to the doctor in the first place.
Stepping off the prissy soapbox.....

As I turned down Bloggingham Road to go home I saw this.
Good thing I got gas on the way home.
Who can afford super?

Your thoughts?

My thoughts: Well in Norway we pay around 10$, so that's why I rather use public transportation.

Wishing you a great end to your week :-)

Politicians won't do it.
The answer is: a bike and gauchos! You can wear your crown, but the pencil skirt would be a bit of a problem.

Uh Oh, I didn't notice the price today. I am just about on empty and now contemplating heading out tonight to fill it before it rises here. Thanks for the heads up. I feel your pain too, I have parked my 2004 V8 pick up truck and now travel in style in my 95 Buick Century. Its much more fuel efficient, despite its lack of paint and loose muffler.

Things will only get better when we produce all the energy we can from all sources. Such a large percentage of our fuel is produce in the Huston area and it is now out of operation. No one could change that but you should look to the person who will produce energy from all sources when deciding your vote.

On the news tonight, they mentioned a very large auto dealership that suddenly closed, putting 150 people out of work. I know that doesn't sound like much, but the impact of that is 150 didn't even know they were losing their job until they showed up for work and were told they needed to leave because the dealership had closed. So, they spent the money to drive to work, lost their job, and had to turn around and drive back home. The cost of fuel is only the physical cost; the emotional cost is great higher. Like you said, how can any normal family eat and pay for gas?

It's a big bone of contention here too, amongst other things! :(

Petrol/Gas is over £5 ($10) a gallon here in Britain as well.

I'm not sure what it is around here. It had gone down about 60 cents a gal from its peak price in I guess July, but now with the hurricane..who knows what that will mean?

We use credit when we get gas, and we can't pay the full bill like we used to always do. So we owe all kinds of money to the giant oil company. Yuck.

It takes weeks for gas to drop after the price of crude goes down. They shut down refineries because of Ike and prices raise the next day. Can we say "gauging"?

Mimi Lenox said...

Katherine - That might be the place for me then.

Sarge - Sounds like a plan.

Ann - Thank you very much.

Songbird - I feel sorry for those people. Sad.

Akelamalu - Yes, I heard it was so and from Renny too in Norway. It's outrageous.

Jean-luc - That is unbelievable. How long has it been that high?

Patti - The ups and downs and the uncertainly. That's what makes people nervous.

Bud - Yes, let's all say it together. Gauging. True.

The last price I saw yesterday was $3.77, which is the lowest I've seen in months. I have about 3/4 of a tank, and Pam's tank is full. I think we'll be ok, and hopefully the price will go up and come back down in the next week or so.

Mimi Lenox said...

Travis - I hope it soon corrects itself.
